Define the different forms of community interaction: competition, commensalism, mutualism, predation, parasitism Give an example and a picture for each

Competition

Interaction that can occur between individuals or species as they attempt to use the same, limited resources, particularly energy, nutrients or space

Bees competes to get honey.Go to fullsize image

Mutualism -beneficial to both species

Actually a two-way exploitation. Food is beneficial to both species.

Predators kill and eat other organisms

Spiders kill bees to eat.      Go to fullsize image

Why are the gases on earth getting trapped?  Why is there global warming?  Is it true there is a layer on the sky that traps all the gases and bounces back to earth? How do we stop global warming?  Do we need to make an effort to try to save earth before everybody dies?  We need answers as soon as possible.

Blog 7 Compare and contrast two biomes describe them in detail include pictures of plants and animals you are likely to see.
Terrestrial (land) biomes and Aquatic biomes (including Freshwater biomes and Marine biomes) are the type of biomes I'm going to compare.  The marine regions are divided between coral reefs, estuaries, and oceans.  Biomes are often named for their predominant vegetation, and all have certain characteristics such as microorganisms, fungi, and animals which have adapted to their particular environment. Terrestrial is land animals that live on earth land. Like the desert or any wild place. Any forest mountains anywhere.

Blog #6 Which level of a food pyramid is the most important? Support your answer

Blog #6 Which level of a food pyramid is the most important? Support your answer

I think the vegetable group is the more important group of the food pyramid.  Too many people eat the meat group and don't care about the veggies. Its important to balance everything out so you'll be healthy. Too much of one thing is not good for you.  You need everything.  That means the fruits and stuff too.  And people rarely think about the veggie group all they care about is the steak and good meat.

There have been 5 major extinction events throughout history, are humans impacting the 6th? Why or why not?

I think humans will be the 6th because i know we cant last forever.  Its impossible.  Something bad will always happen. Lets say a meteor can destroy earth.  Or the earth will overpopulate.  Global warming is also a big impact too.  There are things we cant stop sometimes.  I say our biggest factor is global warming.

Describe the three types of selection: directional, stabilizing and disruptive and give an example of each in your own words.

Stabilizing is when natural selection works against the two extremes of a trait to make the population more uniform. Stabilizing selection might work on the birth weighof human babies to keep them at an intermediate weight, because babies that are too big or too small have less chance of being born healthy.

Directional selection is a type of selection works to select the extreme of one trait. In a population of plants, flowers with the brightest color are selected for in order to attract the most pollinators.

Disruptive type of selection selects against the mean of the population. If there are two types of seeds to eat for a population of birds, either of two different beak shapes (sharp or blunt) might be selected for, but a beak that's the average of the two shapes might not be particularly good at eating either seed, so it would be selected against.

Blog # 2 Why is fossil record hard to interpret?

View ImageFossils are hard to interpret because they take long time to form.  Takes hundreds or even thousands of millions of years to form one.  Thats why fossils are so rare and expensive.  They're hard to find also since most of them vanish or is bury deep.  The animals that are extinct are the ones we learn from.  Like dinosaurs they're hard to find.View Image
